GDP · EVENT PLAYBOOK
U.S. GDP schedule and market impact
GDP measures total U.S. economic output. The BEA publishes advance, second and third estimates for each quarter, typically at 8:30 a.m. ET (8:30 p.m. Beijing time during U.S. daylight time; 9:30 p.m. during standard time).
WHY IT MATTERS
Why U.S. equities care
GDP growth is central to the recession-versus-soft-landing debate and shapes views on the earnings cycle and the yield curve; markets usually focus on the surprise and the composition of growth.

IMPACT PATHS · INFERENCE
Potential paths, not trade calls
Recession fears fade but the rate path tightens → yields rise → rate-sensitive sectors reprice
Recession and easing expectations rise together → the curve reshapes → defensive and cyclical sectors diverge
READING BOUNDARIES
Common reading mistakes
- Advance estimates rely on incomplete data and later revisions can change the picture
- Inventories and net exports often distort a single quarter
- Quarterly data lags monthly indicators
